BREAKING NEWS! The Road to Bayreuth just got longer! // The Road to Bayreuth geht in die Verlängerung!

I had planned to go to all these Wagner operas over the next half year, including the last 3 performances in Bayreuth. Read the review for Tristan here!

And now something has happened. It’s big and it’s good.

I had really hoped to get the ticket, now it’s official: The new list of Wagner operas in the next months for me now is (drumroll please 😉 :

Tristan, Parsifal, Parsifal, Parsifal, Parsifal, Meistersinger, Holländer.

One more Parsifal, reviews will be forthcoming on that too, as it’s not just any Parsifal. It will be the Parsifal in July 2018 at the Bavarian State Opera Munich conducted by Kirill Petrenko. Petrenko is conducting his Parsifal-debut. This will also be the first time where I will hear Petrenko conduct live. His experience with Wagner, including a celebrated Ring in Bayreuth, should make for an exciting first take on Wagner’s Bühnenweihfestspiel.

Jonas Kaufmann will sing the title role, Pierre Audi directs and Georg Baselitz has designed the stage. Other singers in the production include Nina Stemme (Kundry),  René Pape (Gurnemanz), Wolfgang Koch (Klingsor) and Christian Gerhaher (Amfortas).

With that, I will be hearing Nina Stemme’s Kundry three times this year, first with Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin State Opera, then the with Berliner Philharmoniker with Sir Simon Rattle and finally with the Bavarian State Opera under Petrenko.

On the list of most-awaited new opera productions by Opera online, this Parsifal ranks first. I am incredibly looking forward to hearing Jonas Kaufmann, whom I sadly missed by a few days when he was singing a concert-performance of Carmen in Berlin in 2012. Now I can finally hear him as part of this grand journey to Bayreuth.

Diese Wagneropern hatte ich ursprünglich geplant für das nächste halbe Jahr, inklusive der letzten 3 Vorstellungen in Bayreuth. Hier geht es zur Tristan Kritik!

Und jetzt ist was passiert. Etwas Großes. Etwas Gutes.

Ich hatte schon darauf gehofft, jetzt ist es offiziell. Die neue Liste von Wagneropern für mich lautet (Trommelwirbel!):

Tristan, Parsifal, Parsifal, Parsifal, Parsifal, Meistersinger, Holländer.

Es ist ein weiterer Parsifal hinzugekommen, von dem ich natürlich auch berichten werde. Ich freue mich auf den Parsifal im Juli 2018 an der Bayrischen Staatsoper München unter Kirill Petrenko. Petrenko gibt hier sein Parsifal-Debüt. Es ist auch mein erstes Mal, dass ich Kirill Petrenko überhaupt höre. Mit seiner Erfahrung als Wagnerdirigent, inklusive eines groß gefeierten Ringdirigats in Bayreuth, wird es spannend zu hören sein, wie er Wagners Bühnenweihfestspiel angeht.

Jonas Kaufmann singt die Titelrolle, Pierre Audi führt Regie, Georg Baselitz ist für das Bühnenbild verantwortlich. Die Sängerbesetzung wird abgerundet durch u.A. Nina Stemme (Kundry), René Pape (Gurnemanz), Wolfgang Koch (Klingsor) und Christian Gerhaher (Amfortas).

Damit werde ich dieses Jahr Nina Stemmes Kundry gleich dreimal hören: Mit der Staatsoper Unter den Linden unter Daniel Barenboim, den Berliner Philharmonikern unter Rattle und der Bayrischen Staatsoper unter Petrenko.

Auf der Liste der am meisten erwarteten Opernproduktionen 2018 von opera-online liegt dieser Parsifal auf Platz 1, und ich freue mich auch riesig drauf. Jonas Kaufmann wollte ich schon mein ganzes Leben hören, 2012 habe ich ihn knapp verpasst, als er in Berlin den Don José konzertant gab. Jetzt höre ich ihn endlich in meiner Vorbereitung auf ein sicher großartiges Bayreuther Erlebnis.
